What Primers Do You Use and Why?

Postby TAWODI » May 1st, 2012, 2:12 pm

I have been using Nobel Sport 209s for 2 years now. They are the least expensive of any I have found and they DONT'T BACK OUT.

I also use RIO, when I can get them Wholesale. lolol

I use only RIO Primers, since I shoot a Colt type action they are the only primers that do not back out when used in MY gun.

For me dealing with the lockup is not worth the small savings I would get using another brand, at least for me.

When I started in this sport I tried several different brands, CCI, Winchester Western, Remington, Noble Sport and Wolf. The only primers that I can relax and not worry about a lockup is RIO, all of the other primers I purchased I wound up trading away for RIO's, but mostly I gave them away to fellow shooters that could use them.

Yep, IMHO RIO primers are the best. I shoot Colt style GW IIs, don't have to worry about hang ups. Good Luck :)

Howdy,

I recently made an interesting finding. Wolf shotgun primers are non-corrosive, which means they contain no lead. I confirmed this with a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). I just got one from RIO and they do contain lead. I would like to get one for Nobel Sport Primers, to see if they contain lead.

I've had good results with Wolf concerning center hull back-outs and have been using them for several months in everything from Colts to Rugers.

CFDA did buy the last of the stock of Wolfs from our distributor, but I understand they are no longer being made. It would be wonderful to find a no-lead replacement, since so many of our members practice indoors.

We are just completing our Hazmat requirements and training to be able to ship primers when ordered from our Mercantile. We also will have lead-free large pistol primers available for order soon also, along with special brass to accommodate them as well.

Tawodi, can you get a MSDS Sheet for Nobel Sport?

So who is Nobel Sport Italia and the Nobelsport group?

A manufacturer crafting all components in house and with 100% Research and Development of all components and finished products, the Nobelsport Group is the biggest component and cartridge manufacturer in the world and owns propriety brands such as ‘Vectan’ and ‘Martignoni’. Manufacturing brands in France, Viri, FOB and Tunet, combined with hulls and wads from the NobelsportItalia Italian plant located in San Giuliano Terme, Tuscany, primers from Martignoni, Italy and powder manufacture also from Italy and France, the group also extends to GMBH Nobel and also Nobelsport Spain for component supply. After absorbing the ‘Maionchi’ plant (Lucca, Italy) in 2001 a total revamp of the facility was undertaken and full ISO accreditation received, before the newly named NobelsportItalia brand was launched.

The R&D team at NobelsportItalia have turned out a great range of cartridges that perform in all aspects, feel, velocity, pattern performance at a price that is exceptional for the quality of the end product. Batch consistency is paramount and the factory is the most modern in the world undergoing constant refits and introductions of new technologies as they evolve. Utilising the benefits of manufacturing all their own products the way they want them to be has obvious advantages over simply buying components and assembling them together.

I have never had, not one, customer, tell me they have had a back out or lock up with the Nobel Sport primers in over 2 years of use, and I am talking 100s of 1000s.

I have a MSDS coming and will post ASAP.

I agree with all on Rio and Wolf. when i first got back into shooting i had 1,000 Winchester primers and cussed them every time I shot. I haven't tried Noble so i can't say anything about them.

Will,

I purchased around 400 Noble Sport Primers from you about 2 years ago, I had less back out problems with them then I did with the Remington STS primers, but they still backed out and locked my gun up, it would happen about once every 10 to 15 shots, I may have a few left, the others I gave away to other shooters. Since I started using only RIO primers, I have not had a lockup using them. I was at our Town Folk Alley over the weekend, we had some mixed primers using CCI's, locked my gun up, I wound up breaking the trigger/bolt spring in my gun, whether that contributed to the breakage I don't know.
