Thank You Ringo for your well thought out and written statement. And, to Mongo and Wench and the rest of our membership who "rides for the brand". If there is any confusion of what is behind the principles our CFDA brand, please read Pages 4 & 5 in the 9th Edition of the Gunslinger's Guidelines.

As long as we stick to our Founding Principles and Motto: Safety First, Fun Second, and Competition Third, CFDA will be just fine.

Hit'em Fast, (Please note that my signoff that I've used for decades always has placing hitting the target before speed.)

Miss Shotwell and Shenandoah are with you Cal. The blockers are a completely different game. I have nothing against them as long as they stand on their own. We joined CFDA and will not mix the two games.

To Our Members New and Old,

Nothing has changed in my views since I originally started this thread, except that we all from time to time have to be reminded why Cowboy Fast Draw is so important to our truly dedicated members.

I just thought I would send this thread Back to the Top again, because it contained such an important message. CFDA will continue to grow and succeed. Please don't be distracted by those who try to use Facebook to pull our members into the same traps that have historically prevented the general sport of Fast Draw dating back to the 1950s from ever developing into its true potential.

Standing For Something
In my opinion, the original Fast Draw began to destroy what it stood for, The Old West, beginning in 1959, by allowing, fanning hammers, twist-fanning, expanded holster boots, the crab-walk, loosening dress codes, etc.. Hey, I was there too starting in the 1960s, I didn't know any better either, but I sure do now. Let's always strive to keep Cowboy Fast Draw standing for something important, the Cowboy Way!

The Fastest
Then, the speed egos ran a muck with everyone bent on being the "Fastest". There is and has never been the "Fastest", for that is something that changes day by day, shot by shot. The targets got bigger and closer, because the only important thing became the times showing on the timers. At CFDA we must always strive to keep a balance between Speed vs Accuracy. We do that not only because as Wyatt Earp said, "Fast is fine, but accuracy is final", but because it provides more substance to our sport.

The Best
There is however, the "Best", which can be sustained for a while, but no one can stay the "Best" either for too long. There is always new talent emerging, which is a good thing for our sport. Plus, championships are won through the hard work of preparing for them, and no one can keep that pace forever as we all travel though life's challenges.

"One of the Best or a True Champion"
It takes more than just winning one or even several titles, to ascend to being referred to as "One of the Best" or a "True Champion". That title is only bestowed upon those who have established a "body of work", which includes not only winning, but also winning or losing with grace. This type of individuals are also know to give back to the sport that gave them so much, by promoting the sport.

The Ultimate Prize
Being referred to as 'One of the Best" or a "True Champion, is the ultimate prize, and it can never be taken away. It also comes with the responsibility of becoming a role model, representing your sport, and sharing what you have learned with others. What good is any of the above if the sport fails to continue well beyond yourself.

Please keep the faith. CFDA All the Way!

Thank You,

Well said Cal. The most anyone can attain is to be considered a threat by their peers. In 56 years of competing in some type of Fast Draw, CFD is the best and has the most potential.
