The Great Basin Gun Hawks were formed in 2005 and founded by Quick Cal and Alotta Lead. It was the first CFDA Club to formed in the western time zone. The club began with 23 Founding Life Members each contributing a base amount in order to raise funds to purchase the necessary equipment. Bob Mernickle serves as the CFDA U.S. Marshal. Currently there are about 40 members of the Great Basin Gun Hawks. It is a non-profit community service organization that promotes the safe and proper use of firearms. All monies raised are dedicated to pay for any club expenses and equipment, any remaining balance is dedicated to local charities.
